Professor Thomas
Lickona of Cortland University says that there are ten signs that the nation
will
be destroyed
1. Increased
violence among adolescents.
2. The use of
language and bad words.
3. The
influence of group in violence.
4. Increased
use of drugs, alcohol, free sex.
5. Lack of
understanding of good and bad morals.
6. Decreased
work ethic.
7. Disrespect the older person.
8. Low sense of responsibility of individuals and citizens.

9. Dishonest
culture flourishes.

presence of mutual suspicion and hatred among others
Therefore in order not to happen then the
character education must be done early, because at that age is the golden age
of development that success determines the quality of children in adulthood.
Role in shaping the character of the child
The family is the main actor in the successful character formation of
children, a child will grow character person if it can grow in a characteristic
environment.The purpose of the environment Is not only the family, but school,
campus and society , in other words character development is the responsibility
of all parties.
Family where children’s character education
Family is the
first and foremost place in the success of educating, nurturing, socializing
and developing the potential of children to be useful in the society, if that
role fails then it is difficult for the institutions outside the family to
change it.
Patterns
of care in the family environment
The success of
the family in instilling character values toward the child is very dependent on
the type of parenting on the parents apply to their children, such as the
fulfillment of physical needs, psychological needs, and socialization of norms
in society.
